If you’ve been following my earlier blog posts, you’ll have seen Allison & Dustin’s maternity session! So you’ll know that I was thrilled to be able to meet little Miss Isabella!!! She was a sleepy girl when I met her, so we kept the session short and sweet. We were still able to capture some sweet moments with her parents, and oh those little teeny tiny fingers and toes! I love how she rested so happily on her momma’s chest, her little hand fitting just under her chin. She is a loved girl, and I can’t wait to see her grow!

I was so excited to see Kate this past spring at the San Francisco Birth & Baby Fair! She and I met about 6 years ago when I was still working in the corporate world & photographing on the weekends, and we hadn’t seen each other in about 5 years! So I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph the arrival of her little guy this summer. We had such a fun session, and baby Jack was such a sweet, gorgeous little guy. After a super cold summer in the Bay Area, the day of Jack’s session was one of the warmest of the entire summer. The heat was a bit shocking to Kate, Chase & I, but little Jack snoozed like… well a beautiful little baby!

Clay became a big brother this past month! I actually blogged Clay’s newborn session just two summers ago! I feel so fortunate to capture these moments for families, while also being reminded myself of how quickly time passes. I swear I was just at their sweet home cooing at Clay! And now he’s the big brother to Colden! Clay still has those incredibly cute dimples, and his little brother is such a love. Colden was super mellow and easy, although not at all sleepy! We captured lots of fun expression on both boys, and I can’t wait to see them again to watch them change & grow.

I was so excited when Michelle & Lucas decided to book a 3-session package for this year, to capture maternity, newborn and infant images of their upcoming arrival, or as they like to refer to as their “Little Awesome.” So sweet! We had such a fun time at their maternity session, mixing up a little classic black & white with some fun lifestyle images around their home.

So much fun to shoot in my new home town!

I’ve been photographing babies all over the Bay Area since 2002, but mostly in San Francisco, the East Bay and of course, down the Peninsula. Which was where we called home until this past summer, when we moved to beautiful Napa!

To be honest, we were SO busy this past summer & fall, just keeping up with the beautiful weddings and returning family sessions, that I resisted any urge to build a new client base in Napa. Things have finally calmed down now, and I was just so excited to meet Jen & little Nico for a lovely local shoot! And the 7 minute commute to and from their session… well, let’s just say it was quite blissful! I’m thinking I could get used to that!

Here are a few quick faves from the session. For more from the session, view their slideshow!

First a few beautiful, classic images. Although not used for the whole session, and definitely not past the 1st birthday, I find the classic black background still offers a beautiful canvas to capture the gorgeous skin and teeny shape of infants.

I love capturing shots with mom and knowing that years from now, she’ll marvel at this perspective of her baby, so small and tiny in her arms. And have you ever seen a more perfectly shaped little baby head? So sweet!

Then a few faves bathed in natural window light. I love the way Nico’s bottom lip made a perfect little bow as he drifted off to sleep.

Being a beautiful baby, is definitely hard work – we tuckered little Nico out!

I so love being able to photograph babies-in-belly during our maternity sessions, and then be able to return to capture their brand-new arrival during the first month!  I had so much fun with Suzanne & Paul during their maternity session, and was so excited to hear of Madeleine’s arrival!  Here is miss Madeleine’s first photo shoot, just one week old!  She was already so alert and interested in everything going on around her.  We finally exhausted her at the very end of the session and we were able to capture a few sleepy newborn smiles – you know – the kind they give just as they are falling into a deeper sleep?  So beautiful!

I don’t mean to boast, and maybe as a mother, I’m already biased… okay, so of course I am! But after working with children for years as a child care provider, then as a mom of two, then as a photographer of all ages, I think I know a little bit about newborns. And in my opinion, contrary to popular belief… newborn babies DO smile!!! And not just because of gas (although, I think that is good practice, because let’s face it, toots are funny!!!).

They may be quick smiles, because they are still learning to control so many thing about their new bodies. But they do smile. They smile when they are happy, when they are content, when they are safe and because they know they are loved.

Just take a peek at this beautiful moment between mother & child that I captured during Manon and Alysandre’s newborn session.

Have you ever seen two people more in love? As it should be. Indisputable.

I was so thrilled to hear from Diana this month, sharing the great news that her newest addition Samantha had been born, just a few days before!  I was able to make it over to their home to photograph her at just 4 days old!!!  What a beautiful little girl!  

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph their family a number of times over the past 2 years, starting with big brother Carson at 6 months!  What fun it has been to see their family grow.  Congratulations Tom, Diana, Carson & baby Samantha!!!!

I love, love, love to photograph newborns in the first month of life – even as early as week one!  This time goes by soooooo quickly, when they are this eensey beansey.  There is so much adjustment happening for everyone, that it is hard to remember to capture images of this most tiny stage.  I met Jesenia at one of the local mom & baby fairs, and she remembered to call me shortly after she & Sebastian arrived home.  I was so thrilled to help her capture this amazing time, and the tender love this mama has for her beautiful little boy!  So sweet. 

Thank you Jesenia, for letting me capture this amazing time.  I’m looking forward to seeing Sebastian grow!!
