Michelle + Eddie | San Francisco Engagement Session | San Francisco Wedding Photographer

Michelle & Eddie are so sweet together!!  They’ll be getting married in October at the Oceano Hotel, but as they spend much of their time in San Francisco, we shot their engagement session in the city.  Although we tried for sunshine, San Francisco summer fog & wind greeted us instead.  Michelle was such a trooper through the session, you wouldn’t even know it was freezing outside!!

I brought along my film camera for their session and took a blend of film & digital shots.  The first two below are with Ektar 100 – I love the contrast and pop in these images, super fun!!  The rest of the images are a mix of digital and Fuji 400h.  Can you tell which are which?  Below are just a few favorites, for more images, view their slideshow!

Michelle & Eddie, thank you so much for inviting me to capture your sweet love!!! I’m so excited for your wedding next month!!

Melissa + Andrew | Trentadue Winery Wedding | Film Sneak Peek!

Trentadue Winery is one of my all time favorite locations for a wedding, and I was so excited to shoot some images with my Contax at Melissa & Andrew’s wedding this summer!  The light there is gorgeous, especially on the long driveway at sunset.  I love these two together and their sweet family & friends.  I’m excited to share the full wedding soon, but for now, I couldn’t resist sharing a film-only sneak peek!

One of the best parts about shooting film is that if you shoot it correctly, you just send it off to a great lab (in this case The FIND Lab!), and it comes back, beautiful and basically ready to go!  All with very little to no editing needed at all.  In fact, in this case, because it’s been such a busy summer, the film for Melissa & Andrew’s wedding has BEAT the digital workflow!  Gotta love it!

Here are a few of my fave film shots from the day – more images to come soon!

All images above shot with Fuji 400h with a Contax 645.

A big thank you to all the wonderful vendors as well!

Film is Not Dead, San Francisco | FIND SF | June 2013

After admiring Jonathan Canlas‘ work for years, I was thrilled to find out he was offering a Film Is Not Dead workshop in San Francisco this June.  Three full days of shooting film, getting comfortable with shooting film again and being able to ask Jonathan questions all along the way was exactly what I needed.  And then on top of that, the workshop was full of amazingly talented and inspiring women.  It was an awesome experience.  Jonathan did a masterful job at sharing tons of insightful information about both business and his art, and he’s just a great guy to be around:  fearless, huge-hearted and inspiring.

Above are some favorites from the 3 days.  It’s hard to explain how excited I was to get the email that my scans were ready.  For that feeling alone, film wins!  In all actuality, I don’t mean to pit film & digital against one another.  There are some wonderful benefits to each, and I think what I’m hoping to explore is a way to blend them together in my work to maximize the best of both.  So far since the workshop in June, I’ve shot film at each of my weddings and engagement sessions, and I even shot only film on our family vacation.  The results have been often wonderful and sometimes sucky.  But I’m pressing on.  And it makes me happy.

A huge thanks to Jon for an amazing experience, along with the lovely models for the workshop and all the wonderful women I met!!  Scans are by the fabulous FIND Lab and film a mix of Kodak Portra 800, 400, Ektar and Fuji 400h on Contax 645.
