Newborn Session with Baby Brian!

For me, this is really what it is all about. I photographed Joanna & Eric’s wedding in the Fall of 2006, and this spring they emailed and said they were expecting their first addition this summer! And they wanted to start talking about capturing his first images to share. I was so excited & honored be invited to another milestone in the lives of these two amazing people!

I let Joanna know that as counter-intuitive as it may feel during those first few days, that she should call or email from the hospital & I could clear some time asap. The very best time to capture “newborn” images vs. “infant” images (if you have had children, or have spent time with new families, you probably understand how fleeting and very different these first stages are) is in the first 2 weeks. Babies often still have their “langou” (a.k.a. the fuzzie wuzzies in our household), sleep almost non-stop (this changes rather quickly!) and are still inclined towards a fetal position not ready just yet to kick out and stretch all their limbs (all that time in momma’s tummy is one comfortably hard habit to break), which means lots of sweet, curled up in a ball, snuggly images.

And they are so, so, so tiny at first. We are all in awe. Awe and wonder. And then they really start to grow. And grow. SO fast.

Now Brian, was born a few weeks earlier than expected. Just a little over 5lbs when he was born, I met him at 9 days old and he still so tiny, but oh my goodness, so cute. I was thrilled to get to hold him at different parts of the session. What a love.

Take a peek at some of these images.

In these images, I have Brian cuddled up on a small, folded up blanket, on a leather ottoman. Just to give you a sense of perspective…

In this one, we set a few blocks near Brian, that normally decorate his room. Each block is about 4 inches squared on each side….

And look at how in love his parent are with him… and eachother.

I love these two of Brian in Eric’s arms, and then surrounded by both of his parent’s arms. Ooooh, he will not fit this way for long!

And this one is so funny. After a 2 hour session, even at a super mellow, slow pace, you could see that Brian was tuckered out. Here, he’s self soothing with a little binky time. I love how even at 9 days, he’s protectively hanging on to it for dear life. I can almost hear him saying, “don’t even think about taking this away right now!” He was such a good sport!!!

So while Brian signed off – we snapped a few more of his father Eric Storey, for his campaign! Eric is running for District 9 Supervisor in San Francisco. Eric is a truly genuine, thoughtful and committed candidate. He’d be a great asset to District 9.I encourage you to read more about Eric, his goals and his story here.

Congratulations Joanna & Eric! And welcome, welcome Brian! Thank you for letting me be a part of this truly amazing time!
