Alex’s Rockin’ Bar Mitzvah ~ Temple Beth El & Foster City Community Center

What a fun day! Full of fun surprises… like gorgeous weather in January and some of the best 13 year-old dancers I have ever encountered… including the guys!!! Seriously, maybe things have changed since I was in my teens, but in my day, the guys NEVER danced! And they certainly weren’t good at if they did!!! But perhaps more than the times having changed, I think, like so many things in life, family makes all the difference. And this family can shake it – regardless of generation or gender!!! I think I left with a perma-grin ache on my face – so much fun to photograph!

And the festivities that followed over at Foster City Community Center – starting off with the Hora!

I loved shooting in the beautiful natural light that pours into the Foster City Community Center – so great for clean, bright images!

Okay, just a quick camera nerd moment – check out the dynamic range on these backlit pics outside! Gotta love the new Canon 5D Mark II!!!

Kate & Mike ~ San Francisco Engagement Session, Crissy Field

Kate & Mike are actually getting married this Saturday!!! We shot these images last night at Crissy Field, as we squeezed in an engagement session and planning meeting for their wedding day! I am so excited to photograph their wedding. They’ll be getting married at St. Dominic’s Church in San Francisco, which is just a stunning building (see Stephanie & Tim’s wedding there last year for more images) and then their reception will be at Bimbo’s 365 Club! These two are so cute and affectionate and just so much fun to capture together.

Here are just a few faves from their session that I caught after sunset with a video light. The video light is a new toy for me – and super fun! Enjoy!

Meet Stella’s little brother!

Here’s another returning family, with a new baby! So much fun! When I first photographed Stella, she was about the same age as her little brother John is now, about just about 10 months. It’s such a fun age to photograph as babies are sitting up and crawling, and so happy! John is no exception. It’s hard not to wear a grin from ear to ear around him. He’s a super smiley little guy. Stella is now almost 3, and we had a great time playing with all of her dress-up clothes and pretend play toys. We had lots of fun jumping on the bed and dancing around in general. Here are just a few of my faves from the session!

I love how John looks like he is just casually lounging in a pose for this next shot!

You can see where both John & Stella get their beautiful blue eyes in this next shot!

We were also lucky in our timing that we were able to capture some images that day with Stella & John’s paternal grandparents. Here’s a fave with John & Grandma!

Both Stella & John love to snuggle and hug their mom! So sweet!

Such a fun session with Avery, Macy & Anders!

These 3 are so much fun! Avery & Macy are twins and Anders is their little brother. Not only are they super silly and full of personality – but oh my goodness – they are fun to photograph! The light was so soft and pretty, and the colors just popped!

Check out some of these faves and watch the slideshow too! I grew up with with an older brother and an “irish twin” sister, and I couldn’t help but laugh and smile as looked through these images. It made me remember all the wacky fun the three of us had together as kids. Watching the slideshow made me want to be a kid again. Don’t they look like they are having so much fun?!!

I love the juxtaposition of the next two images – classic!!!

And finally, a great game of peek-a-boo on the soft comfy chair – gigglefest central!

Fun Family Session!

The Bechtel’s have such a great family! I was incredibly honored to have them call me for their first family photo session since their kids were toddlers! I love that they are already planning to put these pictures all throughout their home. I so love the idea that I’m contributing to the history of a family, and helping capture the way they remember this time and place. Because the Bechtel’s home is so close to an amazing park and trails, and we decided to go exploring and finding fun spots to photograph them together, individually and with their sweet, sweet dog!

The light was perfect, right before sunset, and we found some beautiful backlight and this amazing bridge to capture the sense of fun and beauty that is so present in their family. Easy smiles from everyone, lots of laughter and so much love. What a pleasure it was to photograph them!

Meet Will!!!

It was so much fun to meet Will (nicknamed Hobs!) just around his 1st birthday. I’ve probably mentioned it a billion times already, but I love, love, love working with families and getting to photograph their children as they grow – and their familes as they grow bigger too! I had the pleasure of meeting Will’s big sis, Meredith right before her 1st birthday, and now 18 months later - she is such a big girl!!! These two are so full of personality and expression, I could have hung out and photographed them all day!

Here are just a few faves from their session:

I find it’s great to get the kids into a crib during a shoot. They love to jump around and it keeps them in one place!!! Of course, it can get a little crazy too – which I think is wonderful – these images are so full of fun to me!

Then after a little lunch break and costume change – and some in between – we headed outside for the rest of the session.

This one was so cute & one of those shots you know you’ll love as soon as you hear the shutter click! Right then, I told Katherine, “I think we just got you your holiday card!!!”

Then a few minutes later, I shot this one. Seriously, I can’t decide which one I like better. So sweet!

Meet Annabelle’s Little Brother!!!

I was so excited to meet Bobby! I first photographed Annabelle when she was just around the same age (7 months). I always tell parents what a great time this is to capture – sitting up but not yet crawling. It’s pretty much the easiest session they’ll ever have with their children! And children at this age are so excited to be sitting up, seeing the world a whole new way – they smile easily, their skin is perfection and they still have some of the roundness & cherub quality of infancy. I like to call this the “Gerber Baby” phase. It’s a great time to bring in the black background for some classic portraits. I usually retire this for families once a child reaches a walk/running phase. It’s just too demanding to expect a small inquisitive, explorer to be confined to a “studio-like” setting. That said, Miss Annabelle was an exception to the rule. As true to form as her first session, she just sparkles in front of the lens. What beautiful, fun and joyful children these two are!!! Melissa’s Session with the McDowells!

Some of you know this already, but business has been booming!!! And I’m so grateful & excited about the evolution of LPP! So this year, I’ve brought on 2 associate photographers, one for portraits and one for weddings. And I have plans for more! Very exciting!

Melissa Gray has taken on the role of associate photographer on the portrait side, and she is such a wonderful addition to the team! Melissa has been photographing children and families for the past 2 years, and is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree at San FranciscoStateUniversity, with a major in Photography and Fine Arts. Melissa has been working as an editing assistant, as well as assisting on weddings with me for the past year, and she is a perfect match for the style and approach to family photography that I love. She’s engaging, thoughtful and artistic, with a warm and fun demeanor. She puts people of all ages at ease, allowing everyone to photograph at in a comfortable and natural manner.

Melissa’s session with the McDowell’s was so fun to edit! Ryan is such a beautiful and fun little guy! Check out some of these faves:

Becca is getting sooooo big!!!

Oooooh, sometimes I am sure I have the best job in the whole world!!!

Hannah & Craig invited me to photograph Rebecca when she was just over a week old. And again, and again, and again! SO fun!!! I’m so honored that they’ve asked me to capture this amazing time in Rebecca’s life!

They are now attending business school, but when they’ve returned for visits, we make a plan to meet up! We’ve had a total of 5 shoots over the past year and a half, and it has been so fun to see Becca grow up!

Becca is just such a sweetheart! She is super smart and observant, and also just full of giggles. My cheeks hurt from smiling when I got home after the shoot. Honestly, you cannot spend time with Becca or I’m guessing, look at any of her pics, without grinning ear to ear. Here are some fun shots from our session. Or you can view her slideshow here!
