I was so excited to capture this session for Allison & Dustin. I photographed their wedding at Trentadue winery in 2009, and to be capturing their maternity and newborn session with their first child is really what it’s all about for me! I love being able to see the progression of each story I capture. I don’t know if it’s like this for everyone, but I’m always a bit sad when I finish a great book. By the time the book ends, I have gotten to know the characters, laughed and cried and cheered with them, and I’m never really ready to say goodbye. The stories I capture during a wedding day, feel much the same to me. So I am always thrilled when I am able to capture other moments in the lives of my clients. One of the most beautiful moments of course, is the welcoming of a child into their lives. These two are all about love and family, and they just glowed with joy and anticipation throughout our session, which matched the lovely, glowing light in this magical spot in Marin. I love when new, expectant parents call me to capture their maternity & newborn sessions. It’s such a wondrous time, and so full of anticipation. It’s exciting to be a part of something from the beginning, helping to capture these lovely, life-changing moments. Marce called me when she was in her last month of pregnancy, and I am so happy now that she did! Her little girl arrived a few weeks earlier than expected, so we caught this moment just in time! We spent part of the session at their home, then headed out to Gamble Gardens for some lovely outdoor photos.

I was so excited to meet Gabriela & Ignacio at the East Bay Baby Fair last Spring! We hit it off quickly, and I knew we would have fun working together! If you saw Michelle & Lucas’ maternity photography session, you’ll recognize this gorgeous family, with their new little son Xavier! I was so excited to meet him, and capture them all together as a family outside the womb! I loved how during their maternity session, I could imagine Michelle & Lucas as parents. They have so much love for each other, and they laugh so easily together. You can tell that not only will Xavier be treasured, but be surrounded by fun and giggles too! I can’t wait to see him at our next session!

I had to post one of my very favorites from this session over the weekend, but here are some more from a wonderful maternity portrait session with Francesca, Tim & big brother Jules!

Wow – I love, love, love photographing these guys! I had the pleasure of photographing Francesca & Tim the day before Jules was born, then paid them a visit in the hospital on day 2 to capture some newborn pictures! Since then, I’ve gotten to capture Jules six month pictures, a fun 2 year old mini-session, an extended family session with Francesca’s parents and siblings, and now their #2! It’s an incredible feeling to be invited to continue to capture families as they grow. I feel so, so honored.

This image is one of my favorites of the year…

… I know I’m probably not supposed to say that, it’s kind of like a parent saying they have a favorite child. And when I really think about it, I do have lots of favorite images from the past year. But I love how this image makes me feel the connection of life and love and siblings and family and the sheer enormity and tenderness of it all. I love how photography can create that kind of powerfully moving moment.

I’m a sucker for children with curls.  If you’ve ever seen pictures of my little ones, or my husband (when he is one of his longer haircut stages) you’d understand!  I especially love long curls on children, so when I met Ari, Maya’s big-brother-to-be, I became an instant fan!

I love how you can see wisdom and depth in his expression.  It’s like he knows a lot is about to change in his world, but he’s also feeling very loved and excited to greet his new little sister!

I so love being able to photograph babies-in-belly during our maternity sessions, and then be able to return to capture their brand-new arrival during the first month!  I had so much fun with Suzanne & Paul during their maternity session, and was so excited to hear of Madeleine’s arrival!  Here is miss Madeleine’s first photo shoot, just one week old!  She was already so alert and interested in everything going on around her.  We finally exhausted her at the very end of the session and we were able to capture a few sleepy newborn smiles – you know – the kind they give just as they are falling into a deeper sleep?  So beautiful!
