When it rains… | San Francisco Mini Portrait Sessions | Beautiful Natural Light Studio

Just because it’s raining outside doesn’t mean there isn’t gorgeous light to shoot in! We just have to get a little creative to find it… and stay dry at the same time!

So when the weather last weekend predicted rain, I started checking out every possible indoor location in San Francisco for our sessions. But my requirements were lofty – I wanted lots of gorgeous natural light & lots of room to run around. I’m not a fan of flash & studio lights when photographing children & families. It can work in specific instances, but I find it can easily distract or impose a formal quality to the images – whereas we wanted fun atmosphere to encourage little personalities to shine. But finding a space that had natural light & space to play & that was available & that fit the budget was quite a feat! But the day before our sessions were scheduled, I found the perfect space!!! And the result? Beautiful, crisp & fun images- perfect for holiday cards & gifts! Check out some favorites from the day!

We’ll be shooting at the same studio this weekend & there are some spots left in the afternoon! Feel free to contact me if you are interested in signing up!

Outdoor Art Club Wedding | Suneela + Chris | Mill Valley Wedding Photographer

Suneela & Chris both grew up in Marin, and in fact, began dating in high school. (For those of you that have been following my blogposts this season, that is the 2nd couple this summer who met & started dating in high school, to be married this summer. I’ll be posting about a 3rd couple with the same history soon!!!! SOOOOO sweet!) Suneela & Chris have been living back east while Suneela finished law school, and it was important to them to incorporate the things they love about Northern California into their wedding day. As such, their wedding was full of natural beauty with lots of trees and wonderful color. I had so much fun photographing their wedding day: they are both so incredibly nice, and so much beloved by their friends and family. I loved all the personal touches they brought to their decor as well – especially the way they tied in Chris’ proposal (under a tree in the Marin Headlands) into their save the date, invitation & cake design!!! You have to peek at the images of their invite & cake – just stunning in it’s detail! The Outdoor Art Club in Mill Valley is such a beautiful wedding location, and it provided a perfect backdrop to their gorgeous wedding day!

Enjoy some favorite images below, or check out their sweet slideshow here!

Suneela & Chris, thank you so much for inviting me to capture your beautiful wedding day!

With the bulk of the wedding season now behind me, I’m finally ready to release Holiday Portrait session dates!

I love, love, love that the results of these sessions end up as cherished gifts to grandparents, holiday cards to friends, and beautifully framed family heirlooms! One of the biggest joys I receive as a photographer, is to return to a client’s home and see the photographs I’ve captured covering their walls!

To start, I’m releasing October dates. I’ll release November dates in just a few weeks, for those who like to wait as long as humanly possible to start holiday card & gift planning! Trust me, I understand!!!

We often end up with 100s of images for you to select from, while keeping the pace relaxed and the approach customized to fit the needs of your family. See samples of custom sessions here.

Custom sessions fees are $350 for weekdays and $550 for weekends. (Custom sessions in Napa qualify for a $100 discount!) After your session, you may purchase high-resolution images, with full reprint rights to use for your favorite holiday card or gift. Each digital image ordered is provided in both color and black & white and sepia! Long-Awaited Happy Baby Photo Contest #2! | SF Birth & Baby Fair Contestants | VOTE TODAY!

It’s was a packed summer of photographing weddings & some additional family commitments, so I had to delay the San Francisco Birth & Baby Fair Happy Baby Contest until the Fall. A HUGE THANK YOU to all the participating families & their patience with the delay. I’m excited to finally have the chance now to run the contest & hope the lucky winner will have the chance to use their free session for a holiday portrait! So take a peek through the details below & please vote for your favorite happy baby!

We had so much fun with our photo booth & contest at the San Francisco Birth & Baby Fair at Fort Mason. At the fair, we set up a simple background to photograph anyone interested in the contest. It was so much fun to meet all the beautiful kiddos & their families, and I photographed over 20 children!!! The studio set-up is very different than my typical portrait sessions, which I think of as more of a story-telling, lifestyle approach to portraiture, but this set-up worked perfectly for this particular venue and contest.

So now, the fun starts – let the voting begin!!!

Here is how it works:

1. Take a peek at the images below, select your favorite, note their # and cast your vote!

2. After you cast your vote, you’ll be able to see the current results of the voting.

3. Invite friends & family to vote as too!

4. Only one vote per person.

5. Voting ends at 11:59pm on October 17, 2010.

6. The lucky winner will be announced October 18, 2010 on the blog.

The image with the MOST votes will win:

- 1-2 hour weekday lifestyle portrait session on-location (anywhere in SF Bay Area)

- Online slideshow of photographer’s favorite images

- Online proofing gallery of session images

- 1 8×10 fine art canvas gallery wrap, ready to hang & beautifully display

Here are the contestants. I can’t imagine how anyone will decide – they are all so adorable! At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’ll say it again anyways – I love my job!!!

[poll id="3"]

Sad you missed the chance to enter your own child? Don’t worry, we’ll be setting up once more at the San Francisco Birth & Baby Fair on Sunday, November 21st at Fort Mason! Stop by and see us!

Special thanks to my friend and wonderful photographer as well, Cara Gardner for helping out at the photo booth! Thank you, thank you!!!
